This BBC article on Microsoft and Apple mentions the release of a new possibility of bringing iPod content to TV. I have been playing around with an RCA MPG4 player for a while now which allows me to do the reverse...
I am interested to see how this will change the public's thinking about which screen is the predominent. It used to revolve around the TV and Apple are certainly going after that space.
Mark Kennedy begins with an apology...for what reason I do not know. For guys like me I find this sort of direction and education very helpful
Mathew Ingram discovered this video service called StumbleVideo that got their start in Calgary
It has a very easy to used interface and had me captivated for quite sometime...
Levi's have taken the leap into online advertising as one of the pioneers. The title of Business Week's article is quite applicable - Levi's Fits its Ads to the Web. Online video advertising is significantly different from the standard format we are used to on Television. This article captures the nature of it needing to be cheaper yet more creative which is probably one of the main reasons that few have ventured in very far. It is hard for the larger shops to cater their systems to this style of requirement leaving a window open for those committed enough to be players in this space over the next 5 years...
So $1.65B does it for YouTube to give in...wow
I have been considering getting into the podcast thing for a while but taking the time to learn it has been a barrier for me. I just read a post on Ben Yoskovitz Instigator Blog that is a very helpful breakdown of how to approach podcasting. I guess I am now left without excuse.
Mark Evans who recently moved onto greater things from the national post claimed 2006 to be the year of the video on his blog this week. YouTube really did make great shakes and something is shaking with a business model as the rumors of GOOG wanting to buy them for an amount as high as $1.6 billion...that is a whole lot of cash for something that lacks revenue.
I was at the launch of Baldhead Systems new product this week. They have got the deal for all the flat screens for VIVA and YRT here in Toronto. It is a very cool idea and seems to be more advanced than what is happening with the experimentation on the GO Train.
With so much going on in new channels for advertising I am left wondering when the content is going to evolve as much as the systems. There must be another way than all the big agencies owning the slots...
When Rogers partnered up with Sona Mobile and CanWest to bring news via video to my Blackberry I accepted the fact that a new content medium had really hit the market. Many of the blackberry users I know cannot be bothered with all the additional features of other PDA's but when the news headlines can be watched on my cell phone it opens up a new way of living.
The more that the third screen of a mobile phone or PDA can be used to stay up to date and learn what is going on in the world we are facing a change in how the world works not disimilar to when TV hit the rural districts. I don't have to wait until I get home to watch the news and no longer am I tied to specific times it is broadcast. I do not have to sit at a desk and read what is happening, I can sit on the train home and be up to date on what else is going on in the world.
The world of online and wireless media has evolved. No doubt it will take several years to lead the majority away from the television fix but for now it poses a great opportunity for advertising and marketing that is beyond the boredom of text.
I am someone who likes to know the news when I am interested or have a moment. I may have to pay a premium for now but at least I don't have to wait until 6 O'Clock any more...
